Washington, D.C. — November 20, 2017 — In response to President Trump’s designation of North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism, Jon Rainwater, Executive Director of Peace Action, released the following statement:

“North Korea has sponsored and committed terrible acts, but the critical question right now is how do we resolve this nuclear crisis peacefully. Piling on sanctions, which have yet to deter or slow North Korea’s progress on its nuclear weapons program, is not the answer. We need focused, unconditional negotiations that seek to freeze and roll back North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. This designation makes getting to the negotiating table, let alone securing an agreement, all the more difficult.”
